OUR CURRICULUM
With the guidance of Maryland Early Learning Standards, Life Prep creates a curriculum that families love. The innovative adventures we create, offer hands-on exploration and discovery. These adventures are focal points at Life Prep. We understand that our method encourages the learning process and helps to build lifelong critical thinkers. It also fosters confidence and decision making. Adventures are set-up and laid out with all the necessary tools. Our structured adventures are implemented using explicit support and directions. Our unstructured adventures promote autonomy. Friends choose the adventure they want to explore first. Then they move about, rotating to their next exploration when another space is available. They move at their pace with each exploration.
All Adventures focus on five major areas of development:
EARLY COGNITION AND STEAM
SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
APPROACHES TO LEARNING
LANGUAGE AND LITERACY
PHYSICAL WELL-BEING AND MOTOR DEVELOPMENT
Emergent Learners will explore obstacles, challenges and situations that development their ability to run, skip, speak, think, decide, control one’s self, mimic others and much, much more. They may walk in the door timid and shy. But before they leave, they’ll be jumping over furniture, landing on their tippie toes with one foot balanced in the air while screaming hundreds of two year old obscenities like “no”, “why”, “how”, “mommy”, “daddy”, “mine”, “me”, “eat”, “I’m telling”,”why not”, “more please”, “go bye bye” ...….You get it!
Sounds like a true adventure, huh!
Intermediate and Advanced Learners will explore much more structured adventures that challenge their ability to control and coordinate muscles and movement, explore cause and effect, identify, classify and compare objects, shapes numbers and alphabet etc. They will learn to enjoy and value reading, ask questions, use their imagination, approach problems open-minded, follow instructions and own & manage feelings etc.
These moments are very precious and invaluable. We must carefully plan how to use them. Life Prep strives to make everyday the best day of your child’s life. With us, learning is FUN!
